The second round of the 2026 Eurocup-3 season at Portimão confirmed James Egozi as the man to beat, with the Palou Motorsport driver delivering another outstanding weekend that included two victories, a pole position and both fastest laps while Palou Motorsport emerged as the benchmark team in Portugal.
The weekend began with Qualifying 1, where Christopher El Feghali secured pole position for the first time in his Eurocup-3 career. The Drivex driver continued the momentum gained from his breakthrough victory at Paul Ricard and narrowly edged a tightly packed field around the demanding Algarve circuit, confirming himself as one of the championship’s emerging stars.
Race 1, however, belonged to James Egozi. The Palou Motorsport driver was untouchable throughout the contest, converting his strong starting position into a dominant victory. While several drivers battled intensely behind him, Egozi controlled the race from the front to secure maximum points and further strengthen his championship aspirations.
After the race, the stewards issued a penalty to Christopher El Feghali, costing the Lebanese driver a podium finish. The decision reshuffled the final classification with René Lammers in P2 and Heitor Dall'agnol in P3.
Sunday’s Qualifying 2 once again highlighted Egozi’s form. The American driver secured pole position, confirming both his speed over a single lap and the strength of Palou Motorsport. With the championship leader starting from the front, the team was perfectly placed to complete a highly successful weekend.
The final race delivered exactly that. Egozi claimed a second victory of the weekend, leading home teammate Heitor Dall’Agnol in a memorable Palou Motorsport one-two finish. The result capped a dominant round for the Spanish team, which controlled the action throughout the weekend and left Portimão with a significant haul of points in both championships. Keanu Al-Azhari, with a great comeback, finished in P3 to secure second place in the standings at the end of the event.
After two rounds, the championship battle is already beginning to take shape after two rounds. Thanks to his dominant Portimão weekend, James Egozi has extended his advantage at the top of the standings to 106 points, opening a significant gap over Keanu Al Azhari, who remains second with 62 points. Consistency has allowed René Lammers to climb to third on 50 points, while also leading the rookie standings, ahead of fellow newcomers Ean Eyckmans, fourth with 46 points, and Heitor Dall’Agnol, fifth on 42 after his strong runner-up finish in Portugal.
In the teams’ standings, Palou Motorsport has emerged as the early benchmark of the season, leading the standings with 150 points after an outstanding start to the campaign. MP Motorsport occupies second place with 106 points, while Hitech GP completes the top three with 77 points, keeping itself within striking distance as the championship heads into its next phase.
