Portimão set for another spectacular Eurocup-3 battle

June 1, 2026 by

Eurocup-3 continues its exciting 2026 season with the second round of the championship taking place at the stunning Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão. Once again, a packed grid of international talent is ready to take on one of the most spectacular and demanding circuits in European motorsport, in what promises to be another crucial weekend early in the title fight.

After the opening round at Paul Ricard, James Egozi arrives in Portugal as championship leader following an outstanding performance in France that included three podium finishes and a race victory. The American driver made an immediate statement in the standings and will now look to extend his advantage at one of the calendar’s most challenging venues.

Keanu Al Azhari and Ean Eyckmans remain close behind after strong starts to the season. Eyckmans, who currently also leads the rookie classification, has quickly established himself as one of the standout young talents of the championship. In the teams’ standings, Mp Motorsport and Palou Motorsport struck the first blows of the season and head into Portimão ready to continue their early battle at the front.

Renowned for its dramatic elevation changes, blind corners and flowing layout, the 4.6-kilometer Algarve circuit offers a unique challenge for both drivers and teams. Its rollercoaster-style nature rewards confidence and precision, while the combination of high-speed sections and technical braking zones creates multiple overtaking opportunities throughout the lap. Turns such as the fast downhill entry into Turn 1 and the heavy braking zone at Turn 5 have produced memorable battles in recent years, making Portimão one of the most exciting stops on the Eurocup-3 calendar.

The Portuguese venue has become increasingly popular among drivers and fans alike thanks to its modern facilities, spectacular track design and ability to consistently deliver close and unpredictable racing. With margins expected to remain incredibly tight across the field, every session will be vital as teams search for the perfect setup around one of Europe’s most demanding circuits.

Track activity begins on Friday with Official Collective Test 1 at 9:00 and Official Collective Test 2 at 11:40, giving drivers valuable preparation time ahead of the competitive sessions. Saturday’s action starts with Qualifying 1 at 10:00 before Race 1 gets underway at 11:00. The weekend concludes on Sunday with Qualifying 2 at 10:00 followed by Race 2 at 12:15.
