Summer has gone, and Eurocup-3 returns after a long break since its last race at Motorland Aragón back in July. With two events still ahead and a total of four races, what happens in Jerez will be crucial in the outcome of the title fights.
WATCH: How to watch Eurocup-3’s Round 7 at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto
The series visited the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto in 2023. There Esteban Masson had a double retirement while Mari Boya failed to maximise its opportunity to reduce the gap by failing to finish on the podium in any of the races, which were won by Sebastian Ogaard -first victory- and Francesco Braschi.
The Andalusian track combines technic, speed, and overtaking opportunities for the drivers, making it a favorite among teams and drivers in Spain. This weekend, as part of the NAPA Racing Weekend alongside F4 Spanish Championship, Porsche Sprint Challenge Iberica, and Toyota GR Cup Spain, a large turnout is expected in both the paddock and the stands.
As it stands…
Spa-Francorchamps and Red Bull Ring proved a fantastic start to the season for MP Motorsport taking all wins. The Portuguese round in Portimao was different, with Christian Ho emergin with R1 & R2 wins to put himself into the battle for the title alongside Sainteloc Racing’s Alexander Abkhazava, who took the win in crazy final lap in Race 3.
Then first visit to French soil put Christian Ho on top of the standings after his third victory in 2024 but an almost perfect weekend for Javier Sagrera at Circuit Zandvoort with 2 Poles and 2 wins brought the Spaniard back into the lead.
Then the fourth win of the season for Sagrera in Alcañiz followed by not the best weekend for his rivales, gave him an important points margin going into the final phase of the season.
The standings
Javier Sagrera, after securing his fourth win of the year in Alcañiz, leads the standings with 192 points. Behind him, 28 points behind, is a determined Christian Ho (164 points), who has all but secured the Rookie of the Year title. Tied with the Singaporean is the Spanish driver Bruno del Pino. A step below sits Owen Tangavelou with 134 points, still holding mathematical chances.
As for the battle for the team title, MP Motorsport maintains an 88-point lead over Campos Racing, although their margin was slightly reduced at Motorland Aragón. With 176 points still up for grabs, the Dutch team’s calculations are clear: if they extend their lead over their main rivals by just 1 point at the end of the event in Jerez, they will be crowned as new Eurocup-3 champions.
