The Hungaroring hosted a decisive weekend in the 2026 Eurocup-3 season, with Palou Motorsport celebrating both race victories and securing the Teams’ Championship with one round still to go. James Egozi continued his remarkable campaign by becoming the first driver in championship history to claim nine victories in a single season, while teammate Heitor Dall'agnol finally celebrated his maiden Eurocup-3 triumph.
The weekend began with Mp Motorsport setting the pace in Friday’s free practice sessions. Gianmarco Pradel topped the opening session with a 1:35.564, before René Lammers took over in FP2 with a 1:35.351. The Dutch squad showed promising speed around the 4.381-kilometre Hungarian circuit, with Keanu Al Azhari also featuring among the quickest drivers.
Saturday morning brought another milestone, this time for Ean Eyckmans. The Belgian driver secured his first Eurocup-3 Pole Position with a 1:35.152, edging out Dall’Agnol by just 0.053 seconds. Al Azhari and Pradel completed the second row, setting up an intriguing opening race on a circuit where overtaking opportunities are traditionally limited.
Dall’Agnol made the decisive move as soon as the lights went out. Starting alongside Eyckmans, the Brazilian produced a stronger launch and defended the inside line into Turn 1, resisting an attack from Al Azhari to take the lead. From that moment, the Palou Motorsport driver controlled proceedings to claim his long-awaited first Eurocup-3 victory.
It was a particularly meaningful result for Dall’Agnol, who had previously crossed the line first at Imola before a five-second penalty dropped him to third. This time, there was no disappointment after the chequered flag, as the Brazilian finally climbed onto the top step of the podium.
Sunday’s qualifying session saw the already-crowned champion James Egozi return to the front. The American claimed his fifth Pole Position of the season with a 1:34.756, narrowly beating teammate Dall’Agnol, who completed an all-Palou Motorsport front row.
Egozi converted that Pole into another victory, leading the final race of the weekend from start to finish despite two Safety Car interventions. The first followed Rahim Alibhai’s retirement near Turn 4, while a later incident involving Stefan Bostandjiev at Turn 12 brought the field back under caution. The race ultimately finished behind the Safety Car.
Behind the champion, Dall’Agnol completed a Palou Motorsport one-two, while Al Azhari secured third place. René Lammers endured a difficult race after receiving a ten-second penalty for a jump start, a setback that would prove costly in the championship standings.
For Egozi, the result represented his ninth victory of 2026, a new record for the most wins in a single Eurocup-3 season. The American also reached 11 fastest laps this year and extended another remarkable streak: he has claimed at least one victory at every circuit visited by the championship this season, with only Barcelona remaining on the calendar. The season finale will therefore offer him the opportunity to complete a clean sweep of winning at every venue in 2026.
The combined results also handed Palou Motorsport the 2026 Teams’ Championship. With Dall’Agnol winning on Saturday and Egozi leading a one-two finish on Sunday, the fourth this year, the Spanish outfit leaves Hungary with 514 points, ahead of Mp Motorsport on 365. Hitech GP sits third with 230, followed by Griffin Core on 214.
Although the Drivers’ Championship was already decided in Egozi’s favour at Jerez, the battle behind him has become one of the closest of the season.
Keanu Al Azhari heads to Barcelona in second place with 178 points, but just 14 points separate the next three drivers. René Lammers occupies third with 167, only one point ahead of teammate Ean Eyckmans on 166, while Dall’Agnol has moved firmly into contention with 164 following his breakthrough weekend.
The three drivers are also fighting for the Rookie Championship, adding further significance to their battle in the overall standings. Lammers currently holds the advantage over Eyckmans and Dall’Agnol, but with only three points separating them, the title remains completely open. Dall’Agnol’s maiden victory in Hungary and Eyckmans’ first Pole Position and fourth podium have brought both drivers even closer to Lammers ahead of the final round.
The final round of the 2026 Eurocup-3 season will take place at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from 6 to 8 November, where the runner-up position and the Rookie Championship will be decided.
