James Egozi has been crowned the 2026 Eurocup-3 champion with two rounds still remaining after another commanding weekend at Circuito de Jerez–Ángel Nieto. The Palou Motorsport driver sealed the title with second place in Sunday’s Race 2, completing a weekend in which he also claimed pole position and victory in Race 1.
The sixth round of the season arrived with Egozi holding a commanding advantage in the standings and facing his first opportunity to mathematically secure the crown.
The American started the weekend in perfect fashion by taking pole position in Saturday morning’s first qualifying session. A 1:33.773 lap in the closing stages put the Palou Motorsport driver at the top of the timesheets, ahead of Thomas Strauven and Enzo Tarnvanickhul, with less than half a second covering the top eleven.
Starting from pole in Race 1, Egozi successfully defended the lead from Strauven on the run to the opening corner and remained in control throughout a heavily interrupted race. Three Safety Car periods limited the amount of green-flag running, but none prevented the championship leader from converting pole into another victory, the eighth this season.
Egozi crossed the line ahead of Strauven, who claimed his first Eurocup-3 podium, while Tarnvanickhul completed the top three for Campos Racing. Alex Powell finished fourth ahead of René Lammers, Heitor Dall’Agnol and Rafaël Pérard.
Saturday concluded with the final Sprint Race of the season. Maksimilian Popov started from pole on the reversed grid, but a difficult getaway allowed Keanu Al Azhari to sweep around the outside into Turn 1 and take the lead.
A red flag following an accident for James Hedley interrupted the early stages before racing resumed. Al Azhari kept Popov behind after the restart to secure third victory of the year, with the debutant taking second and Rafaël Pérard completing the podium for Palou Motorsport. Ean Eyckmans and Dall’Agnol rounded out the top five, while Egozi finished tenth and added another point to his championship tally.
Egozi seals the championship
Sunday morning saw René Lammers claim his maiden Eurocup-3 pole position after setting a 1:33.927. Egozi was just 0.017 seconds behind in second, putting the championship leader alongside one of his closest rivals on the front row. Dall’Agnol qualified third ahead of Christopher El Feghali and Al Azhari.
Lammers converted pole into his first Eurocup-3 victory with a controlled drive at the front, crossing the line 1.577 seconds ahead of Egozi. Dall’Agnol completed the podium in third, followed by Al Azhari and Dani Maciá. But second place was all Egozi needed.
After a dominant campaign, James Egozi crossed the finish line at Jerez as the 2026 Eurocup-3 champion with the twelfth podium in 2026.
The Palou Motorsport driver leaves Jerez with 283 points and a 122-point advantage over Lammers, meaning his lead can no longer be overturned with the Hungaroring and Barcelona rounds still to come.
Egozi becomes the fourth Eurocup-3 champion, following Esteban Masson, Christian Ho and Mattia Colnaghi, and does so after a campaign in which he has established himself as the benchmark of the field from the opening stages of the season.
Behind the newly crowned champion, the fight remains wide open. Lammers moves into second with 161 points, followed by Al Azhari on 145, Eyckmans on 139 and Dall’Agnol on 120. In the Teams’ Championship, Palou Motorsport leads with 432 points, 110 ahead of Mp Motorsport on 322. Griffin Core sits third with 204 points, with Hitech GP fourth on 170.
Eurocup-3 now heads to the Hungaroring on 23–25 October for the penultimate round of the 2026 season, before the championship concludes in Barcelona on 13–15 November.
